Made by Kikuichi in Nara, Japan, engraved for BLACKBARN
Kikuichi has produced handmade blades for over 750 years using samurai sword-making techniques; each knife passes through at least four master craftsmen
Series: WGD
Options: 7" Santoku (WGD18) or 8" Chef's Knife (WGD21)
Construction: 17 layers, 16-layer Damascus stainless over VG10 core
Handle: Mahogany-dyed birch, Western grip
Hardness: 60 HRC, double bevel 50:50
Care: Hand wash with mild soap and warm water, dry immediately; avoid abrasives and harsh chemicals. Not dishwasher safe; dishwasher use voids the Kikuichi warranty.
Some tools are not purchased; they are adopted.
Damascus layers ripple like water, and the VG10 core holds an edge with quiet loyalty. Light, nimble, and guiding without insisting. These knives reveal how movement becomes an extension of intention.
Western handle, Japanese heart. They move through onions with confidence, through herbs as if asking permission.
An edge like this does not stay perfect on its own. It asks for a few seconds of attention before you begin, which is less a chore than a way of greeting the day.
Pick one up, and you'll quietly rearrange the drawer around it. Other knives will begin to feel loud.
